A Quick Review of Relevant Chironic Mythology:chiron-new-centaur

*
Bastard son of Saturn and a sea-nymph. (Half brother to Neptune, Jupiter, and Pluto)
*
Birth defect–part horse–because his parents conducted their illicit affair disguised as horses
*
Birth defect made him look like the wild, drunken, rapacious, destructive, and mortal race of Centaurs, even though he was of powerful and immortal lineage
*
Mother was so ashamed of his appearance that she abandoned him.
*
Grew up alone. Learned music, astrology, became known for wisdom.
*
Became tutor to Hercules, Jason, Achilles, Asclepius. Stressed full development and integration of mind-body-spirit.
*
Was wounded later in life by a poisoned arrow belonging to his beloved student Hercules. Was immortal so the wound didn’t kill–just caused pain.
*
Learned about healing herbs and potions. Taught skills to Asclepius.
*
Exchanged his too-painful immortality to free Prometheus (who was chained to a rock, his liver eaten daily by an eagle, as punishment for stealing fire from the gods).
*
Was rewarded by Jupiter with permanent recognition as a constellation–alternately identified as Centaurus or Sagittarius.
