About Stariel
The name Stariel came to me as a series of coincidences at a time when I was searching for a business 800 number that I liked. (Different business, different time in my life, and the number is no longer with me.) One of the available numbers “spelled” Stariel. As an astrologer, I loved the Star part. Then I started looking into the iel part. I remembered that Gabriel, Ezekiel, Uriel, and many other angelic messengers and prophets had the I EL ending to their names, and then discovered that it meant, according to different translations, “sent from God”; “messenger of God”; “Angel”; ”of the Spirit” (remember Ariel in Midsummer Night’s Dream) or simply “Spirit”, or “messenger”. I liked the idea of combining the thoughts of a messenger with Stars…. so in a way, it means to me, Messenger of the Stars, or Star Angel.
Then I decided to attach it to the image on the right. My sister, Paula Gabbard, drew this image when she was in college. Her bachelor’s degree was fine arts, and she’s now an art librarian at a highly prestigious university and art library. Actually, the image she drew (on beautiful chromatically dyed green and blue paper), was without the hat and the star. I’d always loved the picture–it has been a framed treasure in my home for at least 40 years–and loved the innocent receptivity of the person in the drawing. With her permission, I added the wizard’s hat and the star, and made Stariel my logo.
