It’s Christmas Day and I’m in a 5-hour layover at a foggy Atlanta airport.  Perfect time to catch up on a few things:

FIRST:  Merry Christmas.  Here’s an image of a tapestry I just finished, which seems seasonally appropriate.

Ethiopian Madonna and Child

And below, there are a few seasonal astrological words AND some teaser quotations by the amazingly fabulous review of my book, Vedic Secrets to Happiness, in The Mountain Astrologer!
We’re long past the Mayan restart-date of 12/21/2012, and we’re all still here.  May 2013 bring some of our ideals into reality!

1. The Turning of the Year.

“Three Days of Darkness” is a recurring meme in the “prophecy field”.  It’s related to the three days between Christ’s crucifixion and the resurrection, and to the selection of December 25th as Christmas Day.  It’s also related to stories of the “Sun Standing Still for Three Days.”  You’ve probably heard these words at some time…. but have you ever wondered about their source?

Simply put, it’s just a calendar story.  Each and every year, at the time of the winter solstice, the sun sits at the most extreme angle in the sky.  The mechanics of getting there and then turning around mean the geometric position of the Sun relative to Earth stays the same for THREE whole days.  Each year, between Dec 21 and Dec 24 in the northern hemisphere, the Sun stands still.  And on the 25th it starts to rise, very slowly, in the Returning of the Light–the miniscule change that begins to lengthen the short winter days until we again have Spring and then the Summer solstice.  At that time the Sun stands still for three days of light, after which days become shorter and shorter again.

In some East Indian traditions, births between the winter solstice and summer solstice are considered more “auspicious”, as the person is born with an increase of light.  Those of us born between the summer solstice and the next winter solstice are born during a time of decreasing light.

This end-of-year week contains some extraordinarily powerful energies.  The Full Moon of December 28 is close to being exactly opposite Pluto (meaning the Sun is conjunct Pluto), and Pluto (archetype of death and rebirth) is in a YOD (hang on a minute) with Saturn harmoniously sextile to it.  Saturn’s archetype is The Structure/The Establishment/Physical Reality/The Rules.  Interestingly, they are in each others’ signs, reinforcing this era of Pluto in Capricorn.

A YOD is a tight isosceles triangle–a small base leading to a sharp point, as each of the “base” planets makes a quincunx (you can’t get all you want because part of what you want is incompatible with the other part of what you want) with–guess who–JUPITER.  The great benefic.  The philosopher, teacher, minister.  But poor Jupiter is in Gemini, which isn’t usually a good place for it:  Too much talking about ideas without the ability to make much sense.   I’m expecting a lot of talk about fiscal cliffs and gun control without a lot of solution.  Saturn and Pluto are DEFINITELY working together to change the status quo though, so despite all the empty words, something will get done.  Maybe not all everyone wants (there’s the Yod at work), but some of what everyone wants.

2. Teaser: From The Mountain Astrologer’s review of my book, Vedic Secrets to Happiness.

“In this stunningly brilliant book, Beversdorf shows how you can design your own astrological prescriptions…. What makes Vedic Secrets to Happiness so remarkable is that you don’t have to be a Vedic astrologer to experiment with these techniques….  Beversdorf brings back the practical dimension to Western astrology….  Whether you’ve been reading charts your whole life or are a complete beginner, there’s a treasure trove of eminently useful astrological lore here….  Vedic Secrets to Happiness is one of the most exciting astrology books I’ve seen in years. It could revolutionize the way astrology is practiced in the West by returning it to its ancient roots.”

8. Audio Mantras –Now available on my website!

I’ve finally recorded and uploaded a series of Mantras to my web site.  If you are interested in astrological remedies, you can find planetary mantras at my website under “Astro-Remedies” and then selecting the planet whose mantra you’re seeking.  A full page of long mantra links can be found HERE.  Words are included.

My most-frequently used mantra is the Mrityunjaya Mantra.  You can listen to it, and to any of the others at the link above.  Thank you, Ricia Doren, for the Ganapati Mantra audio!
